Athens, 2023

An iconic writing retreat
for iconic women nonfiction writers

A writing retreat like no other

From October 30 to November 3, 2023, three incredible women writers will come together in a private villa in Athens to bring their powerful nonfiction books to life.

Are you one of these women?

This retreat balances the immersive experience of this iconic city with the time you need to make your book amazing. You’ll have me, your certified nonfiction book coach and Classical historian, as your guide both to your book and the city.

Every day, you will have dedicated time to write, 1:1 sessions with me, time to explore, inspiring company, and breathtaking views.

This retreat is for writers at a starting point:

  • The start of your book
  • The start of your revision
  • The start of your proposal

To quote Plato, “The beginning is the most important part of the work…”
(Yes, you’ll be working on your book around the corner from where he used to teach!)

You’ll leave Athens inspired and inspiring, on a confident path forward in your book.

Is this writing retreat for me?

This retreat is for women nonfiction writers (creative NF, prescriptive NF, memoir) who are on the verge of something big and know that now is your time.

You are ready to add your voice to the pantheon of increcible women nonfiction authors. Your story will change someone’s life.

Join your coach and two other amazing, empowered women like you, writing together towards 1 goal: to raise each other up with the power of our stories.

What kind of 1:1 coaching will I get?

1 month before the retreat:

  • if you’re starting your first draft or your proposal, you’ll complete the challenges from my signature Pre-Book Proposal Strategy. Our first 1:1 on Oct. 30 will review your responses to set your plan for success.
  • if you’re revising your draft or proposal, you’ll send me the complete doc for review. Our first 1:1 on Oct. 30 will review my feedback to set your plan for success.

In Greece, you’ll get 3 rounds of 1:1 coaching to review your progress, and set new goals.

In December, you’ll get a final 1:1 coaching call to check in on progress and set your goals for 2024.

Accomodations

We’ll be living right in the heart of the bustling city of Athens, with a view of the Parthenon to inspire us night and day.

Enjoy a private, light-filled bedroom & bathroom, and warm, inviting public spaces. Breakfast is on the patio every morning (weather permitting).

Walkable to everything, from restaurants and cafes to ancient sites, our villa provides endless opportunities to inspire your writing.

Find a cozy corner to write in the living room, or stroll the streets to find your new favorite coffee shop.

When you need to relax, make your way to the roof – the hot tub is ready for you.

Tour of Acropolis

One afternoon, you have the option of touring the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum with me, a book coach who also happens to be a Classical scholar.

We’ll walk in the footsteps of history, and I’ll share stories about the past, present, and future of this iconic city.

Market Tour & cooking

A local food journalist & internationally-acclaimed cookbook author,  will lead us through a local market to find ingredients for a dinner we’ll be cooking together.

An iconic woman nonfiction writer herself, she’ll share her favorite Greek recipes with us and teach us to cook them! We’ll celebrate our time in Athens over dinner together.

About your host

I tell the story all the time that if I had gone on my first archaeological dig before I met my then-boyfriend, now-husband, I would be an archaeologist…

I definitely made the right decision (😉) but that passion for the ancient world never left me.

Fast-forward twenty years and I am the proud book coach and founder of The Write Malloy, helping women write powerful, necessary nonfiction.

I harness the skills I learned from decades in education – first as a Latin teacher and then as a History & Humanities professor – to help women write books that change lives.

Home is Chicago, and I spend several months a year working as a historian in Europe, so I’m thrilled to share this part of my story with writers.

I am so excited to bring all of my passions together with you in Athens this Fall and to work closely with three amazing writers in a city I love so much.

There are few places in the world more inspiring than the Parthenon. I hope you’ll join me there.

Are you ready?

Remember: This is an intimate, exclusive retreat for only three writers.

Book your spot now so you don’t miss out!

See you in Athens!!!
