You only get one chance at a first impression.
Your nonfiction book proposal is it.
It has to be amazing!
This is the business plan that lays out your vision, draws in your investors (aka potential agents and publishers), and guides you as you write forward.
Your book proposal is arguably more important than your book itself.
When you need to know that your proposal is selling your idea, impressing the right people, and showing off your best vision, I’m here to help.
From big-picture reviews to granular refinement, a book proposal review and developmental edit is an investment in your proposal’s strength and in your confidence as a writer.
WHY WORK WITH ME?
I’ve been evaluating the work of both academic and professional writers for decades.
I have honed a keen sense of what the reader needs from you on the page, and I have coached scores of writers to perfect their style, tone, and target so that they land dream publishers.
I know you’ve put in the time and research to build a great pitch. But I also know that it’s impossible, as a writer, to be sure everything is out of your head and onto the page.
I’m here to ask you the hard questions about your book, so you have all the answers when you are finally ready to send this book proposal out to find its home.
HOW I HELP
A professional review of your book proposal gives you important perspectives on all components of your nonfiction book proposal. Feedback at this stage means you will gain the confidence that your pitch is saying and doing exactly what you think it is before you send it off to your ideal agents and/or publishers.
Nonfiction Book Proposal Review benefits:
HOLISTIC FEEDBACK
I evaluate each section of your proposal for its individual strengths as well as for its contributions to your pitch as a whole.
SUPPORT
My only goal is to help your proposal showcase the best possible version of you and your book. My review is a safe space to learn what you need.
Insight
Trust me to read your proposal with care for your goals and needs, those of your target reader, and those of your ideal agent or publisher.
Strategy
Get feedback that goes beyond an edit. You’ll get clear plans and strategies for next steps towards revising and pitching your book.
Do you have questions like these?
- Does my overview deliver my core “why”s?
- Is my argument clear, compelling, and consistent?
- Do I flesh out both my audience and their need for my book?
- Are my comp titles strategic, effective, and appropriate?
- Is my marketing plan thorough enough? Is there anything I’m leaving out?
- Are my chapter summaries clear and cohesive?
- Is my proposal the right length? Do I go deep enough in each section?
- Are my samples effective in showing I can do everything I promise in the proposal?
- Am I targeting the right agents or presses?
If this sounds like you, I can help.

Our pages for our proposal and outline have gone from blah to exciting!
Caroline is the real deal! She spent so much time and was beyond patient and helpful. I can’t say enough! Caroline was not only laser-focused as an editor, but extremely helpful when it came to weeding out through-lines and content. Ahhhmazing. She helped me overcome my robotic writing and put more feel and atmosphere into my story. Her patience in redirecting me when I went off topic was amazing. She gently helped me and the pages are much better because of her guidance.
* The Real Rosalind: The Brilliance of Rosalind Franklin (Lerner, 2026) *
It was the confidence boost I did not realize I needed.
Caroline affirmed that I am THE person to write this book. I’m not the same writer I was when I set out to write my first book; I’m more established as a scholar, more clear about what I have to say, and more experienced as a writer. I need to own this as I approach the book project and allow it to come through in my book proposal. I’m moving forward without the self-doubt and hesitation that was clouding my earlier drafts.
I see the path forward.
The best way to value my experience with Caroline is to say that I want to produce my book – my education manifesto – with more of her help. Not because I don’t think I can do it without her – but because I do not want to do it without her. I believe that she listens, that she sees me and hears my voice and I want that coaching, that sensitive and edgy push by my side each step of the way.
Who knew writing a book was the easy part.
Consider yourself fortunate if you have the opportunity to work with Caroline. Mastering the query letter to get an agent has been a real struggle for me. Caroline has the history of success of getting you to where you need to be. She’s generous with resources. She’s responsive and really puts her all into each draft – she’s a writer’s best friend. Highly recommend!
